Blockchain and games seem to go hand in hand these days with several exciting projects announced in space.
One of the most interesting companies in this sector is OTOY, which recently joined the Content Delivery and Security Association (CDSA) as a member of Media & amp; Advisory Board. Entertainment Services Alliance (MESA) "will help develop world-class security solutions and smart content standards on blockchain along with leading studios and media leaders," according to a press release.
By joining CDSA and MESA, OTOY says they are aiming to unlock new blockchain value technology offerings by incorporating the highest content protection standards in the revolutionary scaling and smart contract properties of distributed networks. The effort will initially focus on collaboration with the CDSA Board of Directors, the Technology Committee and the general membership while working to develop the application and the cloud security protocol for the new Trusted Partner Network (TPN), a joint venture between CDSA and Motion Picture Association. of America (MPAA), which claim to be world leaders in third-party entertainment industry valuations.
I spoke with Kalin Stoyanchev, who is the RNDR Project Lead, a distributed GPU rendering platform, as well as OTOY VP of Distributed Systems and Blockchain.
What exactly is your solution and how does the industry change, since it makes you bold to say that RNDR beats Google and Amazon?
"RNDR allows anyone with a modern GPU to use their idle computer to power a peer-to-peer network to earn tokens that can be redeemed on a deadline (when more computing power is needed) or for multimedia rendering in very high resolution. This is the key to the growth of immersive media because the rendering requirements are increasing exponentially, prompting many organizations to look to the cloud to keep up with the demand, thus using thousands of parallel computing nodes, which would not be practical to install locally ".
Stoyanchev explained that the results of their Beta interest form in July showed that the RNDR can achieve a larger GPU computing power scale for the holographic rendering work of the high-end GPU than others in space. While AWS and Google have rapidly expanded their cloud in recent years, much of this capacity is used to run artificially intelligent processes. They still do not have enough capacity to render holographic media.
"Part of the inspiration for RNDR was that when the need to render work in the clear field for our partners was presented, we saturated all the GPUs available on a regional basis on a single rendering." A decentralized network allows us to have the computational power necessary to satisfy a future in which holographic media are widespread, "explained Stoyanchev.
What does membership of this association (MESA) mean to the RNDR project?
"MESA membership allows us to collaborate with other member organizations – these are the leaders in the cloud computing industry – to help define standards for secure cloud workflows that will be essential for augmented reality production and virtual that requires exponentially more processing power than can only be provided by the cloud. While centralized clouds have been transformative, the light field media we are producing need a system that will unlock the value of peer-to-peer nodes. Consequently, we are working more specifically with MESA and its member organizations to help create cloud security protocols that enable the industry to harness the potential power of the decentralized network, which could lead to significant cost improvements, availability and efficiency ".
Stoyanchev added that Blockchain is transforming the cloud graphics industry as it provides architecture and incentives to organize a peer-to-peer computer network, allowing developers to leverage the vast pool of graphics cards to run rendering of next-generation graphics, which will push the boundaries of resolution, photorealism and reactivity in real time.
An interesting observation of Stoyanchev is that visually engaging high-performance photorealistic graphics must be pushed toward the cloud due to hardware constraints. For example, it is impossible for light-weight AR glasses or clear-field displays to perform data processing locally due to enormous resolution needs. The cloud enables server-side graphics, removing many local hardware problems that prevent high-end and visually engaging multimedia experiences from being widely implemented.
"In addition, cloud is essential to democratize production workflows for next generation media. The local installation of hardware is prohibitive. The cloud allows artists to pay on demand only for what they use RNDR makes it even more efficient, allowing artists to monetize their unused computers to earn credits that allow them to scale in the future, "he added.
RNDR has sold tokens to be used on the platform to select partners in the course of 2018, even if they would not reveal how many were sold and what sums were raised from the sale. They are currently being tested with Beta users on the network, to start the decentralized rendering process and perform various tests on the network. They aim to launch their mainnet at the start of next year to give Genesis token holders a more multi-functional product that should ultimately attract new users into the network.
