The Brazilian retail giant Via Varejo has partnered with Airfox, a blockchain payment service.
Via Varejo, owner of the Casa Bahia chain of home appliances and furniture, is integrating Airfox's digital banking platform on its e-commerce platforms, as well as nearly 1,000 offline stores.
As the press release notes, customers will be able to purchase goods at Casa Bahia by paying directly through Airfox, or they will be able to use microloans provided by the retail group. Customers can also use the personal finance app, such as depositing and withdrawing money, at the chain headquarters.
Airfox is a mobile financial service launched in February 2018 that includes payments in fiat and blockchain via its AirToken (AIR) currency, an ERC-20-based token.
The press release highlights the importance of mass-market collaboration for blockchain-based payment services, allowing Airfox to "extend its mobile digital wallet to the Via Varejo customer base and promote 39; mainstream adoption. "
Via Varejo is one of the largest retailers of consumer electronics and home appliances in Brazil, reaching 60 million customers in Brazil through its Casas Bahia and Pontofrio brands. The company owns over 900 stores in 350 Brazilian cities, reportedly making up to 1 million deliveries per month.
According to the recent press release, Via Varejo handled about $ 6.3 billion in sales in 2017.
