Uniqlo symbol of “2 billion sales on opening day”
Half of the sales of the operator FRL Korea
According to industry sources on the 5th, the Uniqlo Myeongdong Central Store, one of Uniqlo’s global flagship stores, will be discontinued on January 31 next year. Myeongdong Jungang Store has 4 floors of 3279㎡ (1128 pyeong) and recorded 2 billion won in daily sales on the first day of its opening in November 2011.
However, when the boycott of Japanese products, which escalated due to the conflict between Korea and Japan in July last year, was selected as the Japanese representative brand, it became a target of the boycott.
The Corona 19 situation at the beginning of the year resulted in a decrease in foreign visitors and sales of the Myeongdong shopping area, a representative tourist attraction, began to plummet. Domestic demand also naturally decreased in line with the declining trend in clothing consumption.
FRL Korea, which operates Uniqlo in Korea, also recorded half the performance. According to the FRL Korea audit report, FRL Korea’s sales during this period were 629.7 billion won, down 55% from 1.37 trillion won in the same period last year (from September 2018 to August 2019).
