BitTorrent turns to blockchain technology to improve network speed: Digital TV Europe

Peer-to-peer technology company BitTorrent has announced plans for & # 39; tokenise & # 39; its Windows-based μTorrent Classic client in an attempt to improve network speed.

The new token, which will also be called BitTorrent (BTT), will be issued by the BitTorrent base in a move designed to increase the overall torrent speed. Users will be able to exchange tokens to download faster.

TRON, the blockchain company that acquired BitTorrent in July 2018, said the token will help expand its vision of a "decentralized Internet" and that BTT will be implemented for the first time in μTorrent Classic.

"The BitTorrent token is the first in a series of steps to support a decentralized Internet," said Justin Sun, founder of TRON and CEO of BitTorrent.

"With a giant leap, the BitTorrent client can introduce blockchain to hundreds of millions of users around the world and empower a new generation of content creators with the tools to distribute their content directly to others on the Web."

TRON and BitTorrent plan to provide more details on the BitTorrent token at its summit on January 17-18 in San Francisco.
