VICTORIA – It seems to work an appeal of the provincial government to reduce non-essential trips to BC.
According to BC Ferries, the traffic of vehicles and passengers on the main routes it decreased by more than half over the weekend than the previous weekend.
The number of passengers on board is reduced by 65%, while car traffic decreased by 50%, said Monday BC Ferries.
“People are definitely getting the message to avoid non-essential travel, which we consider positive,” said ferry spokeswoman Deborah Marshall. “Everyone has to do their part”.
BC Ferries claims to have witnessed a significant drop in the number of passengers during the pandemic, but the decline in the last week has been historic.
“At the start of the pandemic, we saw an 80% drop in travel, but no, we have never seen numbers like this,” Marshall said.
On Thursday, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry introduced stricter restrictions since the start of the pandemic, which included the discouragement of non-essential travel.
Henry asked British Colombians to refrain from any pleasure-related trips to neighboring regions.
