(Johannesburg = Yonhap News) Correspondent Kim Seong-jin = Bahrain, an Islamic state in the Gulf region, announced on 4 (local time) that Pfizer-Bioentech has allowed emergency use of a new vaccine against the infection by coronavirus (Corona 19), Reuters, Associated Press Reported this.

This makes Bahrain the second country to approve Pfizer vaccines after the UK.

The state-run Bahrain News Agency (BNA) also released the announcement that night, explaining that it was in accordance with “a thorough analysis and review of all available data” regarding the approval of the vaccine’s use by part of the authorities.

Bahrain did not immediately disclose the amount of Pfizer vaccine it had purchased.

Bahrain had already approved Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinopharm’s Corona 19 vaccine for emergency use by medical personnel last month.

“Approval of the Pfizer-Bioentech vaccine will add another important layer to the country’s national response to COVID-19,” said Dr Mariam Al Zalahma, chief executive of the National Health Regulatory Authority of Bahrain.

On the 2nd, the British government approved the world’s first emergency use of the Pfizer-Bioentech vaccine.

Urgent use of Pfizer vaccine by Bahrain, which was approved two days after approval for use by the UK, is expected to increase the prevalence of Pfizer vaccine, despite criticism that some such as the European Union (EU) claim it is “hurry”.

Bahrain is a small island kingdom stationed by the United States Navy 5th Fleet as a key US alliance in the Gulf region.
