At the start of its re: Invent conference, Amazon unveiled a new service from its Amazon Web Services (AWS). Instances for macOS are now also available in Elastic Computing Cloud (EC2), so developers can run macOS in the cloud and test infrastructure or their programs there.
Apple, in the form of its Vice President of Marketing Bob Borchers, is pleased with the new addition: “Apple’s thriving community of over 28 million developers continues to develop revolutionary app experiences that satisfy customers around the world. ‘introduction of EC2 Mac instances we are committed to making development accessible to Apple platforms in new ways and to combine the performance and reliability of our world-class hardware with the scalability of AWS. ”
David Brown, Head of EC2-AWS at Amazon, is also pleased: “Our customers tell us they would like their Apple build environment to be integrated with AWS services. With EC2 Mac instances, developers can now for first time on demand Deploy and access MacOS computing environments on AWS so they can focus on building innovative applications for Apple’s industry-leading platforms, rather than procuring and managing the underlying infrastructure. ”
Mac instances are based on Mac Mini with Intel 3.2 GHz processors and 32 GB of RAM, which are located in data centers at three locations in the United States, Ireland and Singapore.
