AutoX’s real driverless taxis have been on the streets of Shenzhen

Start-up AutoX has officially announced China’s first batch of true unmanned RoboTaxi taxi fleets, consisting of 25 vehicles and using the same Chrysler models as Waymo’s US test vehicles. As can be seen from the video provided by AutoX, these cars can already drive the streets of Shenzhen without a driver in the car and without a remote control.

According to the official introduction, this batch of RoboTaxi uses AutoX’s fifth generation detection system based on LiDAR and cameras, which can respond to China’s complex urban road conditions through “ultra-high resolution detection capabilities”. In addition, it is also equipped with a level 4 / level 5 AutoX XCU unmanned driving domain controller, which can safely respond at various times during exercise. It is worth mentioning that AutoX claims that its RoboTaxi is currently the only driverless taxi in China that supports parking anywhere, and can truly realize the experience of “finding a car instead of finding a car”.

Previously, AutoX obtained autonomous driving licenses in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shanghai and other major cities in China. At the same time, it also has a fully driverless driver’s license in California, which allows self-driving without safety officers on board. Since 2018, they have launched large-scale testing in the central Shenzhen area and reportedly obtained a large amount of level 4 autonomous driving data. However, AutoX revealed to TechCrunch in an interview that the fleet does not it is still open to the public. Therefore, there is no definitive answer for when local residents can experience real unmanned taxi service.
