An asteroid more than 800 meters high and more than 500 meters wide is set to pass the Earth on November 29 at a speed of 90,000 km / h. Asteroid 2000 WO107 is as tall as Burj Khalifa in Dubai and is expected to cross the planet around 21.09 pm (AETD) on Sunday.
And contrary to reports that an asteroid the size of the world’s largest building is crashing towards Earth, asteroid 153201 o (2000 WO107) will actually do so. the blue planet is missing of nearly 2.7 million miles.
Classified as a Near Earth (NEA) asteroid, 153201 is an Aten-class asteroid. NASA’s JPL has classified it as a “potentially dangerous asteroid” due to its expected close proximity to Earth.
The asteroid orbits the sun every 318 days approaching 0.20 AU and coming up to 1.62 AU from the sun in a highly elliptical orbit. The asteroid is 97% larger than asteroids and its spectral type None indicates that it likely contains nickel, iron, and cobalt.
Since 2000 the orbit of WO107 is 0.00 AU from Earth’s orbit at its closest point, it means that the orbit is irrelatively close to Earth’s. The asteroid has 28 close approaches expected in the coming decades.
It was last observed officially on January 13, 2018, and after November 29, it is expected to pass close to Earth again on February 6, 2031.
