Arnold & Son has announced a 28-piece limited edition of the Perpetual Moon timepiece with a new dial material.
Introducing the Arnold & Son Perpetual Moon Obsidian with a rare dial made of golden obsidian stone (from Mexico) that exudes a similar luster to the 42mm diameter 18K red gold case. The bronze-colored stone dial is contrasted by the rhodium-plated sword-shaped hour and minute hands and the matching diamond-polished white gold hour markers.
“This volcanic stone has been mined in Central America since time immemorial and was known to have been used by pre-Columbian civilizations in their religious ceremonies. Obsidian has a very high silica content, which makes this material both hard and highly reflective, ”according to Arnold & Son.
A dark blue lacquered moon phase disc is mechanically engraved with a wavy surface with guilloche pattern and set with engraved gold obsidian and rhodium-plated moon patterns and the applied silver stars result in a display that presents the current moon cycle through the aperture prominent ax-shaped at the top of the dial. In fact, the 29mm aperture represents one of the largest moon phase displays on the market.
Leading the hours, minutes and moon phases is the hand-wound caliber A & S1512 which is finely finished with sunbeamed stripes and beveled and polished edges on the bridges, perlage on the main plate and a spiral pattern on the wheels to snap and spring. In particular, it is a double moon phase movement and the back, visible through a transparent caseback, has a special second moon phase display with the 4 major and 4 minor moon phases, controlled by the crown that allows you to set the display on dial side via the visual display on the back.
“The Arnold & Son A & S1512 caliber was entirely developed, produced, decorated, assembled and adapted in the brand’s manufactory in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. This caliber is based on a large barrel with an oscillation frequency of 3 Hz, which offers a power reserve of 90 hours.
