Questions related to timing, goals, and what might come from that step?
A statement by the Council of Senior Scholars, published a few days ago, considered the Muslim Brotherhood a “terrorist group that does not represent the approach of Islam”, adding that “the group pursues its partisan goals that contradict the teachings of religion.”
In the same context, the Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs, Defense and Orientation, Abd al-Latif Al al-Sheikh, called, through his tweet, to allocate the Friday sermon in the Kingdom concerning the declaration of the Council of Scholars elders, which classified the Muslim Brotherhood as a “terrorist organization”.
Saudi academic and writer Amal Al-Hazani says the group was classified by the Saudi government during the reign of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz in 2014, which confirms Saudi Arabia’s position on the group.
In his interview with “Sputnik”, he added that the Council of Senior Scholars was formed recently and that this statement is the first that has come to confirm the organization’s danger to the reputation of Islam in the world.
He indicated that being lenient with them or sympathizers opens a loophole for them to carry out any terrorist act as intended by them.
For his part, political analyst Dr. Muhammad Al Sultan said that the Muslim Brotherhood is the “mother of groups” from which all terrorist groups have emerged.
In his interview with “Sputnik”, he added that the confrontation with the organization must take place on different cadres and that Saudi Arabia designated it as a terrorist group several years ago.
The statement by the Council of Senior Scholars falls into the context of intellectual confrontation, according to Al Sultan, as he believes the Kingdom has placed the Brotherhood organization along with many organizations on the terrorist list.
On the possibility that the group carries out terrorist operations against Saudi Arabia at home or Saudi interests, Al Sultan believes the Kingdom has managed to drain the sources of this terrorist ideology at home and with the coalition fighting the organization.
It indicates that the Council of Senior Scholars statement has an impact on the Islamic world and that Saudi Arabia will not shy away from taking all measures related to confrontation in all its forms.
He pointed out that the organization’s alliances with some “deceived” countries are known and that the organization, wherever it lands in a country, has brought ruin, destruction and terrorism and that any adoption of this organization faces a confrontation declared by the Kingdom.
Meanwhile, Saad bin Omar, head of the Center for Century Studies, says the Brotherhood’s approach is to assert power and eliminate the other.
Bin Omar believes that some countries will have an inadequate response to the event, and that what the Council of Senior Scholars issued confirms the decision taken by the Kingdom years ago regarding the classification of the group on the terrorist list.
He indicated that some countries are using the Brotherhood to achieve their goals in the Arab region.
The statement sparked reactions to reject the statement, as the Hamas movement in Algeria called it seditious, while the Muslim Brotherhood responded with a statement in which it denied “the accusations made by the Council of Senior Scholars”.
