Many Arab countries, like other countries around the world, have taken measures to limit the outbreak of the new Corona virus and to curb its impact on the economy, including imposing curfews and closing most public places.
One of the most important measures taken is the partial or full extension of the curfew. Countries such as Egypt and Algeria have decided to continue to implement a night ban that begins in the evening and ends in the early morning, while the Emirate of Dubai has imposed a total ban, as has Saudi Arabia in the main cities, including the capital, Riyadh.
While countries like Tunisia and Morocco have chosen to apply a general quarantine and not to leave their homes except for the most urgent needs, such as going to work in some of the necessary sectors, traveling to buy basic materials or buying medicines and receiving care.
Measures taken by some Arab countries included the disruption of public transport and transportation during curfew, the suspension of flights, the closure of schools and universities, and the closure of shopping centers with the exception of groceries and pharmacies.
Economically, governments and central banks have taken steps to help workers and industries affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. Like Bahrain, which will spend $ 570 million on the salaries of all private sector workers and will pay the electricity and water bills for all its citizens and businesses.
Egypt has allocated cash support for undocumented workers and salary payments for regular workers in affected sectors through an emergency fund, as well as injecting twenty billion pounds (1.27 billion dollars) to support the stock exchange .
Sudan has granted paid leave to workers over the age of fifty-five, nursing mothers and pregnant women during a health emergency.
