Reseller Cyberport has launched a subscription model for Apple devices: instead of buying devices like iPhones and Macs, customers can subscribe to them for monthly payments – the offer is designed for end customers. The deadline for iPhone and Apple Watch is at least two years, for Mac and iPad three years. The rented device must then be returned. Alternatively, you can also receive an offer to buy at a “fair price”, according to the retailer, even before the subscription period expires.
Abo mit Upgrade-Option
The price of the monthly subscription should always be slightly lower than the purchase price: the iPhone 12 with 64 GB of storage, for example, costs just under 29 euros per month with a subscription or 693.60 euros for the full rental period of 24 months. For comparison: Cyberport estimates the direct purchase price for this model to be € 876.30.
Subscribers should also be offered the opportunity to switch to a new generation of devices during the term: with the iPhone, for example, this is possible after 12 months of subscription – “paid”. When it is returned, the device may show “normal signs of use,” says the Cyberport C2 partner, who is renting the device. Additional costs are incurred in case of damage.
Apple hardware subscribers also have the option to “subscribe” to Cyberport accessories, but this is a classic 12-month installment purchase with an effective annual interest rate of 5%. The accessories then become the property of the buyer.
Apple’s “iPhone Upgrade Program” not in Germany
Apple is now also focusing on monthly payment options for its mostly expensive products. This involves a 0 percent financing which is processed through a partner bank and works for 24 months with the iPhone, the device then belongs to the customer.
Even after five years, the manufacturer has not yet introduced its “iPhone Upgrade Program” in Germany. It is designed to allow the user to upgrade to the latest model each year, and then to continue to tie it to the classic financing that lasts over 24 months.
