Apple releases MacOS 11 Big Sur

13. November 2020 – Apple’s new operating system, MacOS 11 Big Sur, offers a revised user interface and supports internal ARM processors for the first time.

Apple has released the latest incarnation of the Mac operating system. MacOS 11 Big Sur is considered a major upgrade and can feature numerous innovations. The new operating system has an updated all-round user interface with rounded windows and square icons in the dock. In addition, the known control center was ported from iOS, with which Apple now provides the same control concept on all systems.

The most important innovation under the hood is support for internal ARM processors, which can now be used alongside Intel CPUs. Other new features include updated versions of the various apps, including messages, maps and the Safari browser.

MacOS 11 can be used on MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac Pro models released in 2013 or later. iMac and Mac Mini must be 2014, 2015 MacBook or earlier. The operating system can be obtained from the internal update routine or downloaded from the App Store. (rd)
