Apple held a One More Thing event on November 10, at 8pm, focusing on the new processor Apple M1. It arrived on the company’s laptops, the new MacBooks, but also on a compact desktop, the Mac Mini. The 2020 edition of this mini PC is detailed below, based on information from Gadgetzone.ro colleagues.
Apple M1 is the first Apple processor created in-house. It’s a 5nm octa core CPU, which is intended to be an alternative to Intel chipsets. Apple Mac Mini 2020 comes 2 years after the latest update of the Mac Mini series. Make the transition from an Intel Core Gen 8 CPU to a M1, which would be 3x faster and bring 6x faster graphics. We also have automatic learning up to 15x faster, but also the new macOS Big Sur on board. This PC has up to 2TB SSD storage and up to 16 GB of RAM.
Apple is promoting this new miniature PC as good for programming, video editing, for musicians and even game developers. There is support for AI-based image upscaling and its neural engine M1 holder holder Tensorflow (deep learning framework). This is what NVIDIA and recently AMD offered.
The Mac Mini features active cooling, unlike the new MacBook Air, and also has generous connectivity: two USB-C ports with standard USB 4 and Thunderbolt (speeds up to 40Gbps), but also two USB-A 3.1 Gen ports 2 and a Gigabit Ethernet plus WiFi 6. There is also an HDMI 2.0 which transmits 4K video at 60Hz, but also DisplayPort via USB-C, which can output 6K resolution at 60Hz.
Basic version of the product costs $ 700, with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of SSD.
