Tomato production has decreased in Antalya due to weather conditions above normal seasonal. Hasan Ali Yılmaz, the president of Hal’s Association of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Brokers, announced that exports of tomatoes from Iraq continue.
Due to the high temperatures in Antalya, there has been a significant decrease in tomato production. For this reason the tomatoes, sold for 1 lira in the same period last year, this year took place on the stalls for 2 lira.
The increase in tomato prices has led the consumer not to buy the product. President Hasan Ali Yılmaz, wholesaler Hal Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Brokers Association, which attributes the high prices of fruit and vegetables as a wholesaler and the decrease in yield due to the effect of summer heat, even in autumn, said that the price of tomatoes rose more than 100% for this reason.
Stating that there is an increase in the whole group of vegetables and fruits, Yılmaz said. “The yield of our vegetables and fruits decreased due to the atmospheric temperature. Especially in the tomatoes. There was a decrease in the number and tonnage in the first fertilization. At first they harvested 10 kilograms, now they have started to harvest 5 kilograms. . This inevitably affects the price ” She said.
“WE EXPORT TOMATOES FROM IRAQ”
Noting that there were no such problems last year and the price of tomatoes was around 1 lira, Yılmaz said. “There is a 30% loss. The weight of the tomatoes was around 1 TL last year, this year around 2 TL. There are no problems in exporting. Especially the Iraqi market has opened, we are exporting tomatoes “ I speak.
THERE IS A DECREASE IN THE MID-HALF
When the production indices for the year 2020 are analyzed, there was an increase of 6.88% in October, of 22.28% in vegetables and of 6.69% in fruit compared to the previous month, and when this data was evaluated on an annual basis, a significant decrease was noted. In the same month of the previous year, 52.78% in tomato, 42.15% in vegetables and 33.73% in fruit were observed on an annual basis.
REDUCED PEPPER PRICE
In neighborhood markets, marketers who sell over the counter have complained that the products have not received enough interest. Claiming that the citizens did not come to the market, the market traders said they put a very small amount of profit on the price they bought from the market and tried to sell the product, albeit with difficulty.
Explaining that the pepper fell from 4-5 lire to 3 lire, market shopkeeper Yusuf Tuzun explained that the prices were normal, and when the product fell due to the weather, the prices went up for some products.
Another trader Sebahattin Dinçer stated that prices in Antalya are normal compared to other provinces. Stating that shopping isn’t a lot, Dinçer said. “The prices are a bit high in hot weather. It’s cheaper than in Istanbul, but the prices are a little bit higher in Antalya than last month.” She said.
