Aliens and life on Earth, how does Islam see it? – Islampos

QUESTION: What is the Islamic view of life outside the earth? Does Islam recognize aliens?

Reply:

Before talking about the Islamic view of life forms outside the earth, it is first necessary to know what is meant by that form of life.

Professor Shahul Hameed on the About Islam page explained that aliens who are called aliens outside the earth are not creatures like angels or angels whose existence is believed to be part of a Muslim’s faith.

If they existed, extraterrestrials (literally “beyond the Earth”) would have a material existence in the world of space and time on several planets other than Earth.

Such creatures may be simple single-celled bacteria-like creatures, but most people generally use the term outer space to mean intelligent life on other planets.

Scientific understanding

From a scientific point of view, there are some important points that should not be overlooked when it comes to life forms.

Life requires complex and subtle chemical reactions to exist as well as exist. And such reactions require a liquid medium to facilitate them. But keep in mind that liquids cannot exist isolated in space or objects without the pressure of gases pressing on solid surfaces.

Now of all known objects in our solar system, only the earth is known to have the conditions necessary for liquids to exist under the prevailing conditions.

It is also possible that Jupiter’s moons Europa and Ganymede, as well as Saturn’s Titan, may have fluid above or below the surface. So there is a remote possibility that they may have some form of life present there.

And we know that of all liquids it is water that actually has some special properties that are essential for the formation of life.

The view of the Koran

In this context, it is very important to remember how the Quran teaches us about the relationship between water and life:

Don’t those who don’t believe see that the heavens and the earth are united before we divide them? We make every living thing from water. So they won’t believe? “(QS Al Anbiya: 30)

Scientists today tell us that life began in the ocean when simple molecules bonded and self-replicated.

Allah Almighty said that He created all life out of water and raised a protective canopy on Earth. Allah knows best and all we can do is study, research and meditate.

There are verses in the Qur’an that seem to support the belief in the existence of such creatures, although we cannot find any specific verses that explicitly state their existence.

For example, the phrase “Rabbul` aalameen” (meaning “Lord of the worlds”) serves as the main description that makes possible the existence of beings in many worlds.

The Quran also contains several verses about the various types of creatures created by Allah.

“Among (the signs) of His signs are the creation of the heavens and the earth and the crawling creatures that He has spread over them. And he has the power to collect them whenever he wants. “(Surat as-Syura: 29)

Based on the above verse, some Quran scholars allow the belief in the existence of life on another planet or anywhere other than earth according to their own judgment.

Notice the phrase in the above verse “the crawling creatures have spread to both”. There are references here to beings on planets other than Earth.

Aliens and extraterrestrial life

The word used for “living being” is dabbah and according to the famous translator of the Koran Muhammad Asad, the word dabbah means any physical being that is able to move spontaneously; Compared here to non-physical spiritual beings who are designated as angels (Assad, Muhammad. The message of the Koran. England: Book Foundation, 2003, 449).

In the same verse, Abdullah Yusuf Ali commented: “It is reasonable to assume that Life in one form or another spreads through the millions of celestial bodies scattered in the sky.” (Ali, Abdullah Yusuf, The Koran: text, translation and commentary , Ad-Dar Al-`Arabiah, Beirut, 1938, 1314).

So someday, if scientists come forward with solid evidence that extraterrestrials exist, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to Muslims.

Cultural obsession

Aliens and UFOs have provided ample space for the types of fiction that captivate people’s imaginations while greatly attracting their growing interest in the wonders of science and technology.

In the United States in particular, there is fertile ground for the development and dissemination of all kinds of “modern” myths.

Think of the number of psychics, clairvoyants, spiritual mediums, and other self-proclaimed masters who thrive on the “learned ignorance” of the gullible public.

People in the East, who have almost forgotten all these superstitions, are led to believe by the media that this is part of a postmodern lifestyle that has now been renewed and followed by the fascinating West.

People in the East tend to swallow almost anything that American visual media spew out, they are easy prey to such beliefs.

Aliens and extraterrestrial life

From an Islamic point of view, everything is left to science, because the Quran clearly and unequivocally supports all kinds of correct scientific investigation.

Also in this spirit, Islam encourages humanity to explore the universe, as this helps lead to a deeper faith in the Almighty Creator.

Scientifically, no conclusive evidence for the existence of life on other planets or in other galaxies has so far been found. However, the universe is such a large entity that we cannot ignore the possibility of life, as on earth, on a remote planet in one of the millions of galaxies.

This is a solid scientific stand against anything that is not yet definitively known. We do not know all the secrets of the universe, nor can we reveal the truth.

And finally, the problem of the existence of these extraterrestrials has nothing to do with our core beliefs or beliefs. So faith or distrust in relation to aliens and extraterrestrial life need not be a burden on our minds. []
