Dr. Mishaal Bin Fahm Al-Salami, President of the Arab Parliament, greatly appreciated the decision of the Arab Ministers of Education to adopt the “Document for the development of education in the Arab world” prepared by the Arab Parliament as a guiding document for the development of education in the Arab world, and will be submitted to Arab leaders for adoption and approval at the next Arab Summit to turn it into programs and projects AND implementation plans of the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and science.

Al-Salami stated in statements to him today (Thursday) that the document aims to establish high-quality Arab education systems capable of competing globally and absorbing modern variables in education in all its stages, improving the state of scientific research and keeping up with developments in the knowledge society and the revolution in communications and information technology.
The president of the Arab parliament added that the document stresses the importance of developing educational curricula that develop the student’s scientific and creative abilities and hone his skills and personality by building the student’s personality on critical thinking, construction and ability. to solve problems.

Al-Salami explained that one of the objectives of this document is to develop all components of the educational process, be they human frameworks, curricula, tools and methods, infrastructure and educational environment, and the document also adopts the idea of ​​a development comprehensive in all educational stages from kindergarten to higher education and lifelong continuing education.

The document also affirms compulsory and free education at all stages of public education and links educational institutions in the kindergarten stage with the structure of formal education in proportion to the importance of this age stage for the Arab child.

The document links education and sustainable development by developing the outcomes of the educational process to meet the needs and requirements of the labor market, production and development. The document also designated an independent distance education center as one of the future options for education in the Arab world.

The President of the Parliament stressed that the document for the development of education in the Arab world is the result of a great effort, extensive discussions and in-depth studies undertaken by the Social, Educational, Cultural Affairs, Women and Youth Committee in the Arab Parliament, and a summary of the results of the meetings with Arab, regional and international organizations specializing in education, namely: UNESCO and Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science, the Islamic Organization for Education, Science and Culture, the Federation of Arab Universities, the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils and the Social Affairs Sector of the League of Arab States, the day culminated in a meeting with education decision makers in Arab countries and Arab education ministers.
The President of the Parliament drew attention to the fact that, despite all the estimated efforts made by Arab countries in the field of literacy, the number of illiterate people in the Arab world is still high and is estimated according to the latest statistics of the Arab Organization for education, culture and science in about 74 million people, equal to 21% of the total population of Arab countries, about 10% of the total number of illiterate people in the world.
