Saudi Arabia has no diplomatic relations with Israel, unlike Egypt, which signed a peace treaty with Tel Aviv in 1979, followed by Jordan in 1994, and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain in September 2020, while the Sudan recently announced its agreement to normalize relations with Israel.
For the first time, last September, Saudi Arabia allowed Israeli planes bound for Abu Dhabi to pass through its airspace.
Outgoing US President Donald Trump expected a case that he would be able to get a second term in the US presidential election, that 10 countries in the Middle East would join peace treaties with Israel.
Saudi Arabia has come under pressure from the Trump administration to urge it to normalize relations with Tel Aviv.
Trump lost the U.S. election to Democratic candidate Joe Biden, which raises question marks about the fate of the peace and normalization agreements the Trump administration was planning between Israel and other Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia.
