The University of Tokyo started offering a blockchain course at its engineering graduate school, thanks to a donation of $ 800,000 from a consortium that includes the Ethereum Foundation and the Japanese finance giant Sumitomo Mitsui.
The class – called "Blockсhain Innovation Donation Course" – was launched on November 1st and will last until October 2021, according to a statement by Sumitomo Mitsui.
Other corporate donors included Good Luck Three, JSS Corp., Zipper Corp., Hotlink Co., and Money Forward Inc.

The aim of the blockchain course is to educate motivated and business-motivated students with "outstanding talent in information mathematics" on fintech and the revolutionary technology behind cryptocurrencies.
The University of Tokyo hopes to nurture future blockchain entrepreneurs by teaching them decentralized networks and how to implement them socially.
Blockchain is a field of fashionable and trendy studies right now, and many companies are investing large sums of money to promote the development and widespread adoption of blockchain.
Experts say innovative technology could transform health care, banking, supply chain management and the entertainment industry.
Ripple donated $ 50 million to the Multi-Uni program
In June 2018, Ripple, the blockchain-based payment network, donated $ 50 million to 17 universities worldwide to launch a partnership called the University Blockchain Research Initiative. As reported by CCN, Ripple made donations in US dollars, not in cryptocurrency.
The company said the interest in the blockchain is increasing dramatically as more and more people are discovering the vast potential of distributed ledger technology, including the facilitation of faster cross-border payments.

Many of the best business schools in the world, including Wharton and Stanford, have expanded their offers of MBA courses to include courses on bitcoin and blockchain, as reported by CCN.
According to a recent Coinbase study, almost half of the world's best universities now offer at least one class related to cryptocurrency.

Kevin Werbach, a professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, is currently teaching a class this term called "Blockchain, Cryptocurrency and Distributed Ledger Technology".
"We are at the point where there is a critical mass to teach this domain," Werbach told CNBC. "There will be a real phenomenon in business for the foreseeable future, and five years later, there will not be too many big business schools that do not offer similar courses".
Likewise, John Jacobs – executive director of Georgetown University Business School – said he was overwhelmed by requests from corporate recruiters demanding applicants who understand blockchain technology.
"Any world-class program will have to equip students in this field to compete," Jacobs said. "It's everywhere we turn around".
