Mythical Games guarantees $ 16 million in funding

Mythical Games, a new gaming studio based in Los Angeles, announced on Friday that it had secured $ 16 million in a Series-A round of financing. The funds will support the development and co-production of blockchain-based games for mobile devices, PCs and consoles. The round was conducted by Galaxy Digital and included Okcoin, Javelin Venture Partners, Divergence Digital, Fenbushi and Noris.

The startup plans to provide its proprietary platform to other developers to help build "player-owned" economies. It will also produce tools for brands to monetize their gaming resources.

"We believe the game – and in particular the interaction of players with in-game economies and virtual assets – will play a key role in the way the masses discover the true potential of the blockchain," said Mike Novogratz, CEO and founder of Galaxy Digital. "Mythical's experience in building rich and engaging game worlds will be invaluable to this mission."

The company was founded by former executives of Activision, Blizzard and Yahoo. Each of them previously led development teams for games like "Call of Duty" and "World of Warcraft".

"The investment of Galaxy, Javelin and our new investors will enable us to take a new approach to game development, giving players and content creators greater participation in the games they love," said John Linden, co -fondatore and CEO of mythical Games. "We believe these new economies will end up dominating the games, creating an even more addressable market for the industry."

On Saturday, Mythical Games revealed its first collectible game, "Blankos Block Party".

Piper Jaffray, an investment banking and asset management company, released its "Holiday 2018" consumer report on Wednesday, which assesses the gift preferences of American teenagers. Reports show that, for the first time, young people prefer cryptocurrency and "V-Bucks" as gifts on paid money, gift certificates and money for car expenses.

The V-Buck is the in-game currency of the "Fortnite" battle game. The very popular title has raised hundreds of millions of real dollars a month from the sale of resources at play, despite being free to play. The incredible commercial success of the game is probably one of the main factors contributing to the recent increase in funding for game development, as many investors hope to capitalize on its popularity.
