‘It brought me to my knees’: Ford reveals why he was forced to cancel his appearance at the last minute at the press conference

TORONTO – Ontario Premier Doug Ford revealed why he was forced to cancel his appearance at his daily press conference at the last minute yesterday.

Ford’s office sent out a notice less than an hour before his scheduled appearance Tuesday saying he would not be available due to a “non-COVID-related, non-urgent medical appointment.”

Ford told reporters Wednesday that he “blew his shoulders” and was unable to attend due to pain.

“I don’t know if you’ve ever had back pain, but I’ll tell you it brought me to my knees yesterday,” Ford said. “The only thing I’m disappointed about is that it was my first press conference that I missed from the start, so I apologize for that.”

While it was actually the second press conference that Ford was forced to skip at the last minute, his government has been making daily announcements since the start of the pandemic.

Ford has made himself available to the media for the past 188 days of 190 consecutive days, his office told CTV News Toronto on Wednesday.

The only other time Ford missed a press conference was when he chose to undergo a COVID-19 test after Education Minister Stephen Lecce came in contact with someone who tested positive for the disease.

“I just want to shout and thank people for their messages,” Ford said. “I’m healthy as a horse right now. Well, not really healthy, I probably look like a horse but not as healthy as one.”
