From this week, a mass testing program will be brought to the Glasgow area to more effectively detect the virus.
Residents are being targeted in five coronavirus hotspots in Scotland, including Glasgow and Renfrewshire, the BBC reports.
This means that asymptomatic cases – people who show no symptoms – can help identify and spread the infection.
Professor Jason Leach, Scottish Clinical Director, said the project could expand to more communities if successful.
Glasgow
Residents of Dalmarnock and parts of Polokshield in Glasgow are encouraged to book tests if they have no symptoms of covid.
The two sites will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to December 9th, and will be able to test 800 people every day.
A spokesperson for the Glasgow City Council said the units are located in the Emirates Arena car park and across the land from the Albert Drive Tramway Theater.
These will be handled by the Scottish Ambulance Service and aim to deliver results within 24-48 hours.
Asymptomatic tests in all locations allow local residents to book online.
Renfrewshire
A drop-in test service will be available for seven days from Wednesday in Johnstone Town in Renfrewshire.
Local residents will receive lateral flow tests, which can be processed on site and provide results within one hour.
It will be able to test up to 12,000 people per week.
