One of South Korea's largest hospitals collaborated with a local technology company to develop a medical service platform based on blockchain technology, according to the hospital's official press release on November 12th.
The Myongji Hospital, located in the city of Goyang, South Korea, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korean computer company BICube, which is a machine learning platform.
The two sides plan to use blockchain technology to create a system of health information exchange. According to the hospital's release, the project's goal is "to build a hybrid cloud [platform] which combines a public cloud and a private cloud. "
The hybrid cloud functionality of the medical information exchange service will allow patients to share sensitive medical data with other medical institutions prior to authorization, without data being centrally stored.
According to the press release, the two parties plan to market the service by 2019.
In September this year, the Korean Security and Internet Agency (KISA) and the Ministry of Science and ICT announced plans to expand their public blockchain pilot program from six to twelve projects and spend about $ 9 million to spread blockchain in the public and private sectors.
