China’s Chang’e-5 spacecraft decelerated and entered lunar orbit on Saturday, completing a critical step in its journey to collect and return lunar samples, the China National Space Administration (CNSA) announced.

The spacecraft performed braking in distress without incident and successfully entered the lunar orbit, according to real-time monitoring data. Braking in danger is a critical maneuver, as the probe, traveling at high speed, has to brake to lower its relative speed, to allow it to be captured by the lunar gravity.
