WeTrust, a decentralized platform for financial products co-founded by George Li, a former Google employee, is trying to use its platform to connect non-profit organizations with cryptocurrency.
Through its recently launched fundraising platform, WeTrust Spring, is doing "Social entrepreneurs and non-profit organizations to raise money via cryptocurrency."
WeTrust believes that cryptocurrency investors are also looking for ways to influence social change through donations. But they have limited options to do it.
According to George Li:
"One of the untold stories about the crypto community is that we are a group driven by ethics, passionate about a wide range of problems and causes, and we want to be part of positive changes WeTrust Spring provides that crucial connection between cryptographic holders and non-profit organizations that until now had been missing ".
Participating non-profit organizations
The new initiative already has 14 registered non-profit organizations. They include:
Code for America, an organization that draws on the power of technology and talent to force those with authority to recognize the digital age.
Fight for the future that gives people energy to achieve better policies by harnessing the power of the Internet. Bridge Global Foundation, which caters to students from low-development parts of the world, and African Advocacy Network, which provides legal protection to African-Caribbean and African immigrants, looking beyond culture.
Other non-profit organizations working with WeTrust Spring are the Cavalier Rescue, Cultural Heritage Imaging, Ubuntu Foundation, Lava Mae, VietSeeds Foundation, Learning Equity, Rainforest Trust, Surgeons of Hope, Equity in Access and Open Library.
The fundraising platform is built on the Ethereum blockchain and initially accepts donations in the native currency of Ethereum, ETH. However, there are plans to soon host other virtual currencies.
The donations will then be tracked, from WeTrust Spring, to their recipients with a 100% accuracy rate.
Some of those who have promised consulting support for WeTrust include Emin Gün, a professor at Cornell University; Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, Benedict Cha, BitGo chief technology officer, and Michael Casey, senior advisor at the Digital Currency Initiative, MIT.
The donation period began on November 1 and will close on November 27, 2018. The platform promises a token & # 39; thanks & # 39; ERC721 to those who donate 0.1 ETH.
