SAN FRANCISCO, iNews.id – Very bright stars and planets exist in vast space. However, much of the outer sky is so dark with nothing but pitch blackness that it is only visible.
However, a new study to be published soon finds that outer space is not pitch black. According to the research, the outer space is filled with light. Researchers at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory in Arizon studied light in space using NASA’s New Horizons mission.
New Horizons’ main mission is to study Pluto. After spending six months doing this, New Horizons heads into space. Currently, New Horizons is more than 4 billion from Earth, as quoted by Slash Gears, Wednesday (25/11/2020).
When the universe is filled with stars, New Horizons is far enough away in deep space that you can see deep darkness. The researchers studied what was expected to be the hollowest photo from space taken by a spacecraft, specifically one with no bright objects inside.
The image is processed to remove all light from known sources, including relatively close stars. The team also removed more light from galaxies that were believed to exist but have yet to be discovered.
