Ransomware attack against the head office server at dawn on the 22nd
“Customer information is encrypted and managed on a separate server for security reasons”
In reporter Nam Gung-gyeong ㅣ The E-Land group, which was attacked by ransomware on the 22nd, formed a Task Force Team (TFT) led by Vice President Choi Jong-yang to resolve the situation.
On the 23rd, the E-Land group announced that there had been a ransomware attack by an alleged foreign distributor and that they reported to the police and requested an investigation. Ransomware is malware that encrypts data on a user’s computer and asks for money in exchange for decryption. This ransomware attack was conducted against the E-Land headquarters server.
In order to prevent further damage and information loss from ransomware, E-Land closed 23 distribution branches, including Newcore and NC, and shut down the entire server since the morning of the 22nd.
As of 8:00 am that day, most of the 50 E-Land Retail branches have completed the first steps to ensure that basic operations excluding certain functions can be performed normally.
An E-Land official said: “We are currently investigating and analyzing the damage situation internally, but customer information is encrypted and managed on a separate server, so it’s safe.” We will work with relevant departments and investigative agencies to strengthen security so that the incident does not happen again. “
