The Ethereum Foundation donates $ 134,000 to the Ethereum Classic cooperative in the midst of "defrosting tensions"

The Ethereum Foundation donated 15,000 Ethereum Classic tokens (ETC) – or about $ 134,000 at the time of the press – to the Ethereum Classic Cooperative, after receiving the reward in the "old wallets of the Foundation", according to a post from the Medium Foundation.

The Ethereum Foundation and the Ethereum Classic Cooperative are largely similar organizations, both being semi-autonomous support vehicles for their respective chains, providing financial support and fostering community engagement and growth. For example, the Ethereum Foundation currently hosts Devcon4 in Prague.

The development communities of Ethereum (ETH) and ETC collaborated late with some technical challenges shared by the two chains, said Foundation's Virgil Griffith. The donation seems to come as a sort of peace offering for "melting tensions" in Griffith's words. The two chains were notoriously divided more than two years ago among the controversies on the DAO reimbursement (full background here).

No obligation for ETH Foundation / ETC Co-op

Igor Artamonov, who is the main developer of ETCDEV, a leading ETC development group, almost immediately took to chirping clarify the nature of the donation, stating that ETCDEV is independent of both the ETC network and the Cooperative and that "it is not financed in any way" by this last one; who is not collaborating with the Foundation; and that ETCDEV does not have the obligation to collaborate with the Foundation or the Cooperative as a result of the disbursement.

All these statements are in tune with the spirit of ETC, whose genesis following the DAO hack emphasizes a decidedly laissez-faire approach to official oversight and control; as put out by the mission statement of the ETC Github page, "the classic version [preserves] uncontrolled history; free from external interference and subjective tampering with transactions. "

Ethereum's Devcon4 has paid off this week, as the Ethereum Enterprise Alliance has released an updated version of its standardized specifications, which aim to simplify ETH integrations into a number of downstream applications.
