BuzzFeed is about to buy HuffPost, reports the Wall Street newspaper, combining two of the most famous companies to emerge from the web 2.0 era of professionalized blogging. HuffPost was one of several famous websites that Verizon inherited when it bought AOL’s corpse; It’s unclear whether the deal is worth more than paid songs for Tumblr, Mapquest, or Flickr.

BuzzFeed Inc. has agreed to acquire Verizon Media’s HuffPost in an equity deal, the companies said Thursday, joining two of the biggest digital media players as companies across the industry look for ways to jumpstart growth.
