Huawei, once a leader in shipping, has taken a severe blow to its performance due to US sanctions. According to a report from IDC, an international data company, as of the second quarter of last year, Huawei’s mobile phone shipments fell in the third quarter, down 22% from the same period last year, while the Samsung’s shipments increased over last year, knocking down Huawei, the original market leader. It is reported that Samsung will soon launch the new flagship Galaxy S21 to conquer Huawei’s market share.
Due to US sanctions, Huawei has encountered difficulties in sourcing parts and continues to face challenges. According to a report from IDC, an international data company, Samsung was ranked second by market share in the second quarter of this year, second only to Huawei. However, Huawei’s global shipments in the third quarter of this year were 51.9 million units, with a market share of 14.7%, a decrease of 22% from the same period last year. In contrast, Samsung’s global smartphone shipments in the third quarter of this year were 80.4 million units. Market share increased 2.9% over the same period last year, ranking # 1 in global shipments in the third quarter of this year, knocking down the original market hegemon, Huawei.
The latest flagship Galaxy S20 was launched in early March of this year, while the new flagship Galaxy S21 was launched more than a month earlier than in previous years. According to a Reuters report, a source revealed that Samsung is preparing to launch a new Galaxy S21 at the end of January next year and plans to use the US ban on Huawei to grab its market share. As the plan was not made public, Samsung declined to comment.
