“We know there is a vaccine that will most likely be available in Canada in the first quarter of 2021. And we know that steps have been taken to essentially deliver the vaccine to the country.”

In 2021, he added, “I think we will begin to see the gradual lifting of the worn mask, the physical distancing, allowing people to come together.

“We will also probably revisit our restriction on borders. I think it needs to be reconsidered in the calendar year 2021 “.

But he warns that until all of that happens, Canadians should still stick to health measures.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s health director of health, agreed on Monday when asked if the hope of a vaccine could make people inattentive.

He said there is a long time before a vaccine arrives for COVID-19 to reach exponential growth, as it did in places like New York City.

On Monday, more than 70 doctors sent Prime Minister Jason Kenney a letter asking for a “circuit breaker” block to get the virus under control.

“If anything, we need to double our vigilance and do everything possible to prevent people from contracting this infection,” Bogoch said.

“We need to protect ourselves, our families and the most vulnerable among us from getting COVID-19 until this (a vaccine) arrives.

“So while this is wonderful news, we will be wearing masks, practicing our physical distancing and adhering to all of our core public health protocols for months to come.”

The COVID-19 tunnel was long, dark, and seemingly endless. But Dr. Bogoch says, yes, there will be light in 2021.
