Kia has released an image revealing the integration of the propulsion system into the Sorento plug-in hybrid body with three rows of seats and seven passenger seats.
The image shows how the position of the components of the plug-in hybrid system maximizes space for passengers and luggage. Sorento PHEV will be one of the most practical plug-in hybrid SUVs on the market when European sales begin in early 2021.
The new image reveals how the large battery pack, fuel tank, heat engine and electric motor are integrated into the car’s structure, keeping maximum space for luggage and up to seven passengers.
The new plug-in hybrid turbo propulsion system produces 265 hp
Under the hood of the new Sorento Plug-in Hybrid is a powerful 1.6-liter Turbo-GDi engine that produces up to 180PS and 265Nm of torque. It is complemented by an electric motor that produces 67 kW and a torque of 304 Nm. Combined, the propulsion system delivers up to 265 hp and 350 Nm.
The electric motor is mounted between the heat engine and the transmission, which is allowed by the small size of the small displacement and high power turbo engine.
The car’s 13.8 kWh lithium-ion battery is located under the front seats. The battery is located in the space between the passenger compartment floor and the body floor. In the all-wheel drive configuration, the curved “saddle” battery pack is located above the PTO shaft. This structure does not allow the battery pack to influence neither the space in the passenger compartment nor the volume of the trunk.
The location of the Sorento PHEV’s propulsion system allows it to provide generous space to accommodate up to seven passengers. With all seven seats occupied, the remaining trunk volume is 175 liters.
The third row seats, which can be split 50:50, are easy to fold independently, using the handles positioned right inside the open tailgate to create a completely flat floor. Additionally, the 60:40 split second row of seats can be easily folded down to create even more space for longer and larger items, such as sports equipment or flat furniture packages. mounted.
