The pandemic has done enormous damage to the economy. It is true that operators are also in a “comfortable” situation, since the use of digital communication services is essential at this stage, but in the case of NOS it is different.
According to recent information, the company saw its profits drop 42.7% to 79 million euros by September.
NOS with huge drop in profits, but recovering ...
According to the statement sent this Wednesday to the CMVM, NOS reveals that from January to September the operator achieved a net result of 79 million euros, which represents a decrease of 42.7% compared to the same period last year.
However, the operator reveals that the third quarter marks the beginning of the "recovery of Nos, after a period intensely marked by the pandemic". The company's EBITDA reached 471.2 million euros, representing a reduction of 6.5% in this period from January to September.
Total revenues fell by 7.2% to 1 billion euros, despite the improvement seen in the third quarter in terms of attracting new customers.
Unlike the telecommunications sector, in the cinema area "recovery is slow due, on the one hand, to the constraints caused by the pandemic, but also to the postponement of the launch of new blockbusters by the main production studios".
Since September 2019, the number of services provided by NOS has increased by 272,000 or 2.8% to 9.886 million. Television services increased 1.5% to 1.656 million, while mobile communications services increased 3.4% to 4.972 million, reveals Jornal de Negócios. A similar trend was followed by the number of homes with access to the fiber optic network, which grew by 4.9% to 4,796 million. At the end of September, the number of converged and integrated customers reached 61.3% of the fixed network customer base, equal to 967.6 thousand customers.
In May, the operator had already announced a loss of 10.4 million euros in the first quarter of this year. It should be noted that the group's profits were 42.5 million in the first quarter of 2019.
