Rocket Lab successfully launches 15th mission, distributes satellites for Planet, Canon Electronics Inc.

Rocket Lab, a space systems company and world leader in the launch of small dedicated satellites, has successfully launched its 15th Electron mission and Earth imaging satellites deployed for Canon Electronics, a customer Planet and Spaceflight Inc. Rocket Lab’s mission was the fifth for this year, making Electron the second most used US launch vehicle in 2020.
The “In Focus” mission was launched from Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1 on the Māhia Peninsula in New Zealand at 21:21 UTC, 28 October 2020. The Electron launch vehicle has successfully deployed ten small commercial satellites in a circular orbit 500km, bringing the total number of payloads distributed by Rocket Lab to 65.
Payloads on “In Focus” included Planet’s latest flock of small SuperDove Earth imaging satellites, each integrated with and distributed by Rocket Lab’s Maxwell satellite distributors. Flock 4e ‘strengthens the planet’s constellation of Earth observation satellites already in orbit by providing medium resolution global coverage and almost daily review. Canon Electronic’s mission goal with its CE-SAT-IIB microsatellite is to demonstrate the company’s Earth imaging capability with a medium sized telescope equipped with a very high sensitivity camera for capturing night images of the Earth and small telescopes suitable for use with CubeSat.
