For Mike Kiefer, the host of “Löwen” in Zell, another restaurant closure is particularly bitter. He has invested a lot of money in a new type of air purifier to protect his guests and his team.

To protect his guests, but also his employees, Mike Kiefer, restaurateur from Zell and president of the Dehoga district, bought new ventilation devices for the guest rooms of the “Löwen”. The investment amounts to 17,000 euros. The closure of the restaurants is particularly bitter for him.

After a 60-day crown-related lockdown and subsequent drop in sales in the spring, Mike Kiefer, owner of the Hotel-Restaurant Löwen in Zell, was quite frustrated. He decided to take action and invest in infection control. Kiefer obtained his “Vitapoint” air purifier through Winfried Schleith, managing director of Wenk GmbH in Binzen and business partner of Xtraction.

According to the manufacturer, 99.995% of viruses are secreted

Winfried Schleith explained how it works at the press conference: it sucks in contaminated air near the floor and cleans it using two stages of filtration. According to the manufacturer, viruses and droplets are separated in the filter system with a degree of separation of 99.995%. Two filter stages clean in a single rotary motion. One of the filtering stages of class F 9 is intended for air purification, for example in laboratories, the second stage of class H filter 14 usually cleans the air in an operating room.

Part of the fight against the pandemic can also be carried out by a technician who, says Winfried Schleith. However, there is no long-term experience with the device yet. The devices were originally intended for people with respiratory diseases and were developed before the corona pandemic began. Mike Kiefer was the first restaurateur in the county to order air purifiers for his dining rooms. Further inquiries have already been received from restaurateurs about the district’s devices, Schleith says.

Financing is not foreseen

“Now in the colder months of the year it is often not possible for us innkeepers to open the windows at short intervals to ventilate. This is not reasonable for guests,” says Mike Kiefer. “I am also obliged not only to protect our guests from the virus, but also our employees.”

Mike Kiefer got two devices: the larger one can be used for multiple dining rooms with a maximum floor area of ​​300 sq m, the smaller one is suitable for the 150 sq m dining room. The costs for both devices are 17,000 euros. Financing for the purchase of the devices is not yet planned based on the current status.
