Not again! Once again, the US company cuts jobs in Switzerland. This time it hits the gas energy division of Banden AG. According to the Syna union, 84 jobs are affected. This came only shortly after General Electric cut jobs in the electricity sector.
“GE’s approach is dubious and outrageous. Employees, the staff committee and employee organizations are strongly opposed to downsizing, ”Syna writes in a message.
Waiver request
On October 15 alone, 300 GE employees protested in front of the Oberentfelden AG plant against the loss of 562 jobs.
Personnel representatives and employee associations Syna, Unia, AS and KFMV are asking GE to refrain from full downsizing. You will take this request in the consultation at Swiss and European level, the communication reads.
“Over the past four years, GE has already destroyed thousands of jobs in Swiss industry in several waves of downsizing. Now it must end », Syna writes.
“Complete social plan”
The reduction is needed to improve GE’s competitiveness in an “increasingly demanding industrial environment”. Baden and Birr AG would remain “very important” places where GE conducts research and development. Furthermore, the company refers to a “comprehensive and well-developed social plan”. Any interested employee will be supported in finding a new position.
