Blockchain was one of the most refined technological words of 2018 and many companies are trying to determine which use cases may make sense for distributed register technology. Those in some sectors, including manufacturing and pharmaceutical, use technology to regulate supply chains. However, only 1% of organizations have already invested and implemented a blockchain solution, according to a Gartner report.
We interviewed the TechRepublic CIO jury to determine the interest of organizations in blockchain solutions. To the question: "Is your company currently using or exploring any blockchain application?", Eight technology leaders said yes, while four said no.
"Our agency is monitoring the evolution of the blockchain," said Cory Wilburn, CIO of the Texas General Land Office. "Although we do not have ongoing projects, we firmly believe that blockchain will be an important technology that we will use for contract management and automation, land ownership monitoring and possibly other use cases".

Inder Davalur, CIO group of KIMS Hospitals Private Limited, said hospitals are considering the use of the blockchain in the laboratory process ", particularly for billing and the chain of custody of samples," he said.
The law is another area with blockchain applications, said Jerry Justice, CIO of Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan and Aronoff LLP. "[We have] two objectives: advisory and application client," said justice. "But like many emerging technologies, these things do not happen in a vacuum, it takes time to evolve, and there are external forces at play."
In the insurance industry, Michael Spears, CIO and chief data officer of the National Council on compensation insurance, said his organization is exploring potential blockchain applications for insurance data. "There are some blockchains in use, but a dominant industry standard has not yet emerged," Spears said. "In financial services, it will be more than smart contracts and data sharing with respect to supply chain management in the manufacturing and pharmaceutical sectors."

Dan Gallivan, director of information technology at Payette, said his company is currently "aware and explorer" of the blockchain, but has no plans for any adoption of blockchain applications.
Mendix is developing blockchain applications for customers, said CTO Johan Den Haan, and is exploring the use of technology in the supply chain space.
"I think we're seeing a lot of companies going into blockchain now because it's a way to reduce costs within a supply chain throughout a product's life cycle and create complete trust by creating a & # 39, the only source of truth, "said Dan Hopkins, vice president of innovation at Apttus. "While most companies use blockchain for identity management, here in Apttus we use it essentially as a tool for" managing the identity of the product ", in particular with smart contracts.
On the other side of the spectrum, many companies are waiting for the technology to mature before diving.
"We still do not see a convincing use case for our business," said Michael Hanken, vice president of IT at Multiquip Inc.
John Nash, chief strategy officer at RedPoint Global, also said that his company is not currently implementing blockchain projects. "One of the advantages of blockchain is that it forms a reliable and transparent view of data," called Nash. "There are other more practical and scalable ways to obtain a reliable and transparent view of data from a marketer's point of view and to offer a high ROI today."
