The US Commission's Office of Conformance Inspections and Compliance for Financial Instruments and Bags (OCIE) has included the crypt as one of its six exam priorities for 2019.
Each year, the SEC unit highlights six areas that pose a high risk to "the integrity of US capital markets," the report states. In addition to digital resources, the agency is examining, for example, money laundering, IT security and selected areas of FINRA. "These priorities are not exhaustive and will not be the only issues faced by the OCIE during exams, risk reports and investments and the industry's commitment," said the report, released shortly before Christmas.
The agency said that the growth of the digital goods market and several market participants raises a number of concerns. "Given the significant growth and risks presented in this market, OCIE will continue to monitor the offer and sale, trade and management of digital assets and, where the products are securities, will review regulatory compliance, "said 39; agency.
"For companies actively operating in the digital goods market, OCIE will conduct examinations focused, among others, on the management of the portfolio of digital assets, negotiation, security of funds and customer activities, determination of customer portfolios, compliance and internal controls, "the agency added.
