An alleged fake news website has published an encrypted article that incorporates the image of former Prime Minister of New Zealand John Key, the local news agency Stuff reported on January 5.
Reportedly, the announcement promoted Bitcoin (BTC) and a company called "Crypto Revolt", which is allegedly a cheated cloned site. The article also explains that advertising imitates a page of economic news from Stuff and "aims to interview John Key on his enthusiasm for Bitcoin".
In addition, the "NZ Times" logo is present instead of the Stuff logo, and all links lead to the Crypto Revolt website. The source that found the announcement suggested that the Web address was suspect and that the company itself could be compromised.
As reported by Cointelegraph in December 2017, Key then denied the rumors he had invested in Bitcoin. The statement that Keys was a Bitcoin investor, originally, comes from another fake news website, whose link has spread through social media.
The New Zealand police also warned of scams online in September, after a cryptocurrency investor lost $ 213,000 due to fraud. In November, the New Zealand Financial Markets Authority (FMA) also added three cryptocurrency websites to its black list of online scams, and three more were added to the list in December.
