A municipal company in West Bengal began issuing birth certificates through a system of blockchain records, according to a report by the Times of India.

A one-month-old child named Divit became the first to receive a blockchain-based certificate from the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA).

Divit is the son of startup founder Varun Boyani, who leads the Super Procure logistics workflow management company.

The report quoted Debashis Sen, the president of the municipal company, saying that birth certificates based on blockchain were of a safer nature.

On Wednesday, the Millenium Post reported that state minister of IT and electronics Amit Mitra had launched the new blockchain-based service at the Bangla Convention Center, which was also hosting a blockchain congressional event.

"C & # 39; is a hashtag that should be used to store records via blockchain and can not be tampered with in any way," said a senior IT and electronic department official. "So, once the entries are made and the certificate is read, y there can not be any manipulation and this makes it 100% safe."

Mitra told the news portal that the state was evaluating the blockchain technology so that it could be used for the benefit of citizens. He added that the blockchain could be used for electronic media records, traffic management and land record keeping.

West Bengal is not the only Indian state interested in exploiting blockchain technology. Andhra Pradesh explored the use of blockchain in the maintenance of health, land registry and e-procurement registers.

For most of these projects, the state is working with Belenss, founder of Ethereum, founder of Joseph Lubin, Consensys and Belfrics based in Kuala Lumpur. The state has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to train students and professors in technology.

At the beginning of this year, the country's leading expert group, Niti Aayog, had expressed interest in exploiting the blockchain for the benefit of citizens in the health and education sector. The think-tank is known for carrying out pilot projects for the same.
