The Tunisia Internet Agency (ATI) will provide hosting services for the Russian blockchain platform Universa, according to a press release shared with Cointelegraph on December 19th.
Founded in 1996, ATI is a government agency run by the Ministry of Communications with the goal of promoting Internet use in the country.
For the release, ATI has signed a 10-year renewable strategic partnership with the Universa blockchain platform to provide hosting services for the platform and facilitate its further development. The agreement sets a number of objectives, in which ATI will develop value-added services in the blockchain, digital economy and digitalization of documents.
The Universa platform will produce additional applications and services and integrate them into new platforms and technology initiatives such as electronic certification and the digital economy. The two sides will also build joint projects in the field of blockchain as a service (BaaS), which includes digital currency, digital identity, as well as smart cities and e-governance.
Earlier in December, the Saudi Arabia Development Institute, the Islamic Development Bank Group (IsDB), worked with a Tunisian startup iFinTech Solutions to develop inter-bank blockchain tools. The impetus behind the use of the blockchain for the initiative lies in the relative disadvantage that Islamic banks have on the world stage, with institutions limited by the financing options provided by international central banks.
