The role of the blockchain developer is the fastest growing emerging job in the United States, according to the 2018 emerging US report published by LinkedIn on December 13th.
During the preparation of the report, LinkedIn used data from its economic chart to analyze the positions that companies are taking quickly, as well as the skills related to those positions and roles that emerged in the last five years.
The professional social network has discovered that the role of the blockchain developer has increased 33 times in the last 12 months, while the cities with the highest demand are San Francisco, New York City and Atlanta. Among the main skills required for the role, LinkedIn detects solidity, blockchain, Ethereum, criptovaluta and Node.js.
The main emerging jobs of this year also include artificial intelligence (AI) specialists, in which "six of the 15 emerging jobs are related in some way to the AI" and to the machine learning engineers, with a 12-fold growth year after year. For these last roles, LinkedIn names deep learning, machine learning, tensorflow, Apache Spark and natural language processing as the main competencies required.
As reported previously by Cointelegraph, 645 vacancies marked with the words "blockchain", "Bitcoin" or "cryptocurrency" have been posted on LinkedIn. In 2017, the number has risen to around 1,800 and 4,500 vacancies by mid-May of this year. Recently, LinkedIn's search system shows 13,816 blockchain-related records and 2,479 cryptocurrency records.
A report prepared by the Glassdoor review site shows that in August 2018, US companies had published 1,775 vacancies related to blockchain technology, which is three times higher than in the previous year. 79 percent of vacancies are concentrated in the 15 largest US cities and the most saturated demand regions show that New York and San Francisco account for 24 percent and 21 percent of the total number of crypto-industrial jobs.
Social network Facebook has listed five new blockchain-related jobs on its career page in the last three weeks. In the job description for blockchain engineer at the Facebook team Blockchain Data Engineering, the ad defines the position as a technically and intellectually challenging work, which "will have a massive global impact".
