The University of Manila University signed an agreement with MediXserve to create a blockchain lab to solve poverty.
One of the oldest universities in the Philippines has collaborated with a health service provider to create the first laboratory research to be fueled with blockchain.
The 159th university of the Ateneo de Ateneo de Manila and MediXServe signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) last week to build the Education and Research Laboratory (AMBER) of the MediXserve Blockchain University to allow more people understand blockchain technology better.
"I think it's encouraging to know that there is this collaboration that is not just for profit, it helps the vision to defeat poverty," said Dr. Maria Luz Vilches, vice president of Loyola schools, on the occasion of the launch of AMBER. He said the lab is in line with the school's goal of fighting poverty. "It is a very ambitious goal, as our university president P. Jett Villarin SJ said:" We may not be able to achieve the goal, but this is the goal. We must continue to do so. "So I am very happy with this."
According to Ateneo and MediXserve, the laboratory is expected to provide support for the introduction of blockchains in developing countries. At the same time, AMBER is also considered a think tank, an incubation center and a research center for blockchain startups.
Jorge Azurin, CEO of MediXServe, Vilches' vision, said: "Blockchain technology is for the poor, it was created with the hope of helping the powerless, the less affluent." He added that the new technology would require a "village to build this research".
Dr. Regina Estuar is designated head of the village. She will be the director of the Java Wireless Competency Center.
"Blockchain technology is for the less affluent, it is very transparent, it makes everything safe, it reduces the transaction [processes] and the bureaucracy – things, and the poor ones will serve better," he said.
The creation of AMBER came when the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) – a government economic zone in the northern part of the country – collaborated with private developers owned by Northern Star Gaming & Resorts to build $ 100 millions of Crypto Valley of Asia (CVA) inside the ecozone.
The planned CVA should open more than 10,000 new jobs in the business process outsourcing sector.
