The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), a graduate school run by the US Air Force, has launched an educational tool for blockchain.
The magazine Modern Materials Handling reported Monday that the school has launched a free demonstration website for supply chain management professionals in particular, aimed at helping students learn more about the blockchain and its potential cases of & # 39; use. The tool can be used alone as a class module, or folded into other lessons, according to the journal.
The platform was developed in collaboration with the supply chain company SecureMarking and the Beacom School of Business of the University of South Dakota, and while it was developed by the researchers of the Air Force, it aims to help all the heads of the Department of the Defense that may need to learn more about the technology, according to the article.
The AFIT tool "traces the entire life cycle of a component," explains the magazine, in the sense that the user can follow the simulated life of a part since it was first manufactured.
"This is important because many supply chains now face a challenge: having used products reintroduced and sold as new by unscrupulous companies," explains the article, adding:
"These used products can lead to costly problems such as unexpected equipment failures.In some situations, decommissioning monitoring could also be useful to ensure that hazardous materials are disposed of properly or that reusable components are properly recycled."
Alongside the instrument itself, AFIT researchers have published a series of videos that explain blockchain technology and outline how a platform that uses technology could work, as well as how users can interact with the demonstration website.
Researchers with AFIT did not respond to requests for comments by press time.
