If you think that online voting based on blockchain is not possible, you'd better think twice. This is true because the South Korean authorities have renewed their determination to evolve the system. To this end, local authorities are trying to experiment with the blockchain in December. South Korea announces the news
Breaking news, the Korean National Electoral Commission (NEC) announced Wednesday that the commission will work with the Ministry of Science and ICT for the pilot program. Voters have previously expressed concern that the NEC online voting system, popularly called K-voting, is vulnerable to electoral fraud and hacking. According to local media reports, the system has already acquired the bio-metric of about 564 million eligible voters.
Why vote online based on blockchain?
The South Korean NEC has stated that it is migrating the process to the blockchain to improve security and transparency. Making a case for the blockchain online voting system, the NEC has stated that the records stored on the blockchain are tamper-proof. As a result, these election results will be more credible. To ensure the transparency of the system, the electoral arbitrator noted that observers and candidates in the elections will have access to the results collated on the blockchain.
Information on the pilot scheme
Therefore, the South Korean election commission stressed that there is a need to complete the pilot program. Further explaining, the NEC stated that the program will serve as a basis for subsequent online voting systems. In addition, the commission stated that it will integrate the new system with the K vote if the trial is successful.
Furthermore, the NEC has revealed that two institutions will play a key role during the experiment. These include the Blockchain Society of Seoul National University and an agency of the Ministry of Science, Korea Internet and Security Agency. The NEC states that it will distribute online surveys as part of the pilot scheme.

The US state of West Virginia had previously submitted an app for mobile voting with blockchain. After landing in August, the mobile app allowed US military personnel outside the United States to vote in the recently concluded mid-term elections.
Likewise, in September, the Japanese city government of Tsukuba experimented with the blockchain in the hope of deploying it to improve its elections.
