The FINNEY phone was released today at a launch event in Barcelona.

The $ 999 phone is the first of its kind, integrating blockchain technology into it so that its users can safely use blockchain products. The product aims to address the problems that cryptographers face in mobile computing, especially those related to transactions in security, and is the latest in a long series of offers proposed by the producers of SOLARIN.

The phone works on SirinOS, which is a fork of Android with the explicit intention to more deeply integrate blockchain capabilities and a decentralized application marketplace ("dApp"). It sports a secondary screen called "security screen" that has a size of two inches and allows the user to securely access an integrated cold storage portfolio. In form and design, it is no different from SOLARIN.

SirinOS will not be limited to FINNEY, as stated by SIRIN LABS in its launch statement that "they are also looking for strategic OEMs to implement SIRIN OS ™ in other consumer devices". This means that the launch could attract the interest of other phone manufacturers such as ASUS, Motorola or Huawei. HTC has already announced its intentions to bring a phone to the market, but it also has a history of supporting multiple operating systems, while having a Windows phone and several Android phones on the market. Dedicated HTC users have even managed to run the Blackberry operating system on the hardware.

At the same time Sirin has launched a "concept store" in London that will double as an educational center for users. That is: people who buy this phone for its other features (such as security and competitive design) will be able to answer all their questions in this place. The pre-launch website invoices an "incentivized learning" or "learn and earn" platform. The description is equivalent to a blockchain-based Apple Genius Bar.

In anticipation of SirinOS, the FINNEY phone and the stores being launched, the SRN token has been available on various platforms for quite some time. It is described as a "utility" that serves as the cornerstone of the presented ecosystem. Exactly the role that it plays was outlined in their March press release:

"[…] purchase the products, applications and services of SIRIN LABS from the moment SRN tokens are issued and distributed to crowdsale participants (24 hours after the end of the crowdsale). In addition, special discounts will be granted to SRN Token holders who pre-order or purchase products from SIRIN LABS using their SRN tokens. "

True to their word, those who buy the FINNEY with SRN tokens will now receive a 10% discount. The token was trading at around ten cents on Thursday morning.

Foxconn Partnership

Speaking of Apple, Sirin entered into business with the same Apple manufacturer, using Foxconn to mass-produce the world's first blockchain phone on the market. In an interview with CCN, SIRIN CMO Nimrod May said:

"By choosing Foxconn for the realization of FINNEY, we are demonstrating the public's desire to have a mass-market smartphone able to operate safely and securely within blockchain and cryptocurrencies".

A native mobile platform for DApps?

There are inherent limitations to requiring that each installation of the application has a separate implementation of the wallet and so on. SIRIN's phone seems to be an effort to reduce this friction – with cryptography built into the core, developers will now have a target device full of a decentralized application market to be included in the list. Whether or not FINNEY is a successful product, the introduction of a fully developed cryptographic operating system for telephones is an important milestone for cryptocurrency as a whole.

Price of $ 999

There was a time when $ 999 would have seemed too much for a phone, even a top-class phone that puts next-generation financial management solutions in your pocket, but these days is a price point that can be considered competitive when all the characteristics, unique and industry standards are considered. The FINNEY is equipped with a 12 MP camera, a 128 GB (expandable) storage space, the known "secure screen", the ability to run regular apps from Android and, of course, a world of possibilities through applications decentralized.

CCN participated in the launch event and had the opportunity to spend some time with the Finn. Stay tuned for further coverage.
