Sapphire Technology, one of the largest suppliers of AMD-based video cards in the world, has announced that it is officially entering the cryptocurrency hardware business. The company based in Hong Kong is launching a flagship plant for the mining industry.

Many of the recent mining news has been less than positive, to say the least, with lower prices pushing many operations below profitability. For example, at the beginning of this month it was revealed that the weak demand from GPU miners was one of the main factors contributing to the collapse of sales for graphics card manufacturers like Asus and Gigabyte, who are struggling with the unsold inventory.
