7 out of 10 beauty salons, annual sales less than 50 million won … 2.4% over 500 million
16% of business establishments this year, 18% of business closures ↓ … Sales increase or decrease depending on the situation of the crown
(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Shin Shin-kyung = Seven out of ten beauty salons recorded less than 50 million won in annual sales. In the case of this year, the sales of beauty salons are strongly affected by the spread of Corona 19 and the degree of distance.
According to the report, “ Beauty Salons Status Analysis and Market Conditions ” published on the 29th by the KB Financial Group Management Research Center as the sixth series of self-employment analyzes, approximately 110,000 salons are in operation in September beauty (statistics from the Ministry of Public Administration and Security). Compared to 86,000 in 2010, it has increased by about 20% over the past 10 years.
Of the total beauty salons, 67% (as a result of the 2018 service sector survey conducted by Statistics Korea) had annual sales of less than 50 million won. The percentage of beauty salons with annual sales of over 500 million won was 2.4%, up from 1.9% in 2017.
Sales of beauty salons this year are directly impacted by the social detachment caused by Corona 19.
Looking at this year’s monthly sales of beauty salons in Ingye-dong, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do (KB Real Estate Liveon Commercial Area Information Analysis Statistics), after the first pandemic started in March, sales have increased along with the decrease in the number of confirmed cases, but in August, when the second pandemic began. Subsequently, sales fell again.
Researcher Oh Sang-yeop predicted in the report: “Since there are no alternative means for beauty salons, sales will return to previous levels after the decrease in confirmed cases or the end of the crown.”
Beauty salon startup rate dropped about 1 percentage point (p) from 9.2% to 8.2% in five years (2015-2019), while the closing rate increased by 0.3 points percentages from 5.9% to 6.2%.
The period of operation of beauty salons is longer than that of other sectors and it was found that 55% of all shops are open for more than 5 years and 31% for more than 10 years. The average period of activity of the beauty salons closed in the last 5 years was 8.2 years.
Only 5,577 beauty salons were open from January to September this year, 15.6% less than in the same period last year. The number of beauty salons closed this year (3,947) also decreased by 18% compared to the same period last year (4,809).
