Extremely rare, but spectacular every time, we have the opportunity to meet in Bucharest with an authentic Ghenie. The reappearance in the auctions of the most highly rated contemporary Romanian artist will probably cause a lot of rumors and interest in the offer among art collectors, both national and international, as long as at this moment it is considered in the international market that Ghenie is a must-have, being among the most sought after and desirable artists for any large museum or private collection in the world. Ghenie’s latest work in the “Lidless Eye” series, which deconstructs the portrait of the painter Van Gogh, published at auction in Hong Kong on 6 October, has been awarded by Sotheby’s for over 5 million euros, confirming the trust of collectors and investors in value and in the future the young Romanian artist.

A work from the same cycle (“The Lidless Eye”), will go on sale in Bucharest, from an international collection, in less than 2 weeks, at the Artmark contemporary art auction on Wednesday evening, 11 November. The collage created by Adrian Ghenie in 2016 is part of the same famous series of “self-portraits” of the artist, in which he (re) imagines himself as one of his idols in the art world, namely Vincent van Gogh, thus reinventing the genre, , self-portrait. “The work of the artist Baia Mare is up for auction at a price of only 10,000 euros.

Ghenie is present in the same Contemporary Art Auction with two other works – “Untitled / Memory”, respectively “Untitled / Wing”, which have starting prices respectively of 20,000 and 6,000 euros, being a happy event and a first for an artist of the Ghenie’s stature and desirable to be featured in an auction, in Romania, with 3 works, especially with themes that reflect discursive concerns in such a broad and diverse way.

The contemporary art auction today presents the contemporary creations of all the most important Romanian artists and Ștefan Câlția is no exception. And Câlția registers a record presence on the first day of the Contemporary Art Auction on November 11, including 5 significant works. The most impressive aspect of the auction goes to the large canvas “Salzburg Doll in Green Dress” (starting price 18,000 euros), made in 2004. Along with this, another creation, dating back 2 decades, ,, Monkey Traveler ”(starting price of 14,000 euros), reveals a“ small theater of the world ”, but also a complex universe of life, filtered by reason and culture, through the prism of characters carrying symbols. At the same time, Ștefan Câlția is present in the auction with works with more conservative estimates, such as “Spring” (starting price 8,000 euros), “Night Procession” (starting price 2,800 euros) or “Velvet stain” (starting price 2,300 euros).

Another famous artist, who signs a unique and significant lot of the auction on November 11, is Geta Brătescu, a complex artist, influenced by art history and influential in his practices. We discover a piece of this universe of artistic exploration in the 1972 tapestry (175cmx95cm), offered in the auction on Wednesday (starting price of 10,000 euros).

Precious Romanian artists with an international share, who complete the palette of the contemporary offer since 11 November, are Corneliu Baba, Constantin Piliuță, Sabin Bălașa, Gheorghe Fikl, Sorin Ilfoveanu, Georgeta Năpăruș, Șerban Savu or Mircea Cantor.
